Bellamy Necklace
Abalone pendant with gold star on gold filled chain.
We found out we were pregnant early 2020 right before CoVid hit. We were quite surprised because our kids were 10 & 6 and we thought we could no longer have kids. We surprised even more to find out through NIPT testing that our baby would more than likely have Down Syndrome. It was very hard going to doctor’s appointments alone due to CoVid because of all the unknowns. We were fortunate that no major issues were discovered during pregnancy. We thought when Bellamy was born that it would be obvious to o us whether she had DS or not but that proved not to be the case. She had some subtle features but nothing that stood out. We also assumed that based on her NIPT result that the doctors would automatically do all of the screening that goes along with a newborn that has DS but we had to push for that since they didn’t see any strong features. It took what seemed like forever to get her karotype testing back.
When we finally did, the result was Mosaic Down Syndrome which explained the subtle features. Bellamy was exactly what our family needed at that time. Despite all of our concerns and doubts about being good enough parents to raise a child with special needs, we have figured it out as we go and have grown so much because of it. She has brought our family so much happiness and joy.
