A note from Samuel's mother:
This design for our Samuel's necklace embodies so much of what he means to us. When we received his diagnosis of Down Syndrome at his birth, I looked at him, and heard the words in my heart, "He is joy." This has proved to be more true than I could have imagined. Our "Samwise" causes both joy and wonder to well up in my heart.
We also wanted to incorporate inspiration for this piece from two songs that have been special to us. The first is the bridge from City of Stars:
"A look in somebody's eyes/To light up the skies/To open the world and send it reeling/A voice that says, I'll be here/And you'll be alright/I don't care if I know/Just where I will go/'Cause all that I need's this crazy feeling/A rat-tat-tat on my heart/Think I want it to stay"
The other special song is Boat Song, by J.J. Heller. Samuel loves this song and has learned signs for it. One line says, "If you were the stars then I'd be the moon, a light in the dark, my darling, for you."
The sparkling blue stones represent Samuel's joyful, sparkling, blue eyes, and the stars and moon remind us of the wonder. This piece so wonderfully encapsulates the joy and wonder that our "Samwise" brings us.
